The Transfer Tracker on MLSSoccer.com stated a straightforward intra-league trade on January 25, 2023:
PHI receives: Damion Lowe
MIA receive: $225k TAM & other assets
Seems simple enough at first glance.
Inter Miami, in the second and final year of the largest sanctions in MLS history, offloaded a player in the last year of his deal for some modest, albeit much-needed, allocation money.
While Lowe was a starter and the mainstay anchoring the defense in 2022, Inter Miami made clear the position was one they were looking to upgrade in the offseason.
But, a closer look at the ensuing moves that have come in the three weeks since indicates a much more organized plan that could set up the future foundation for the club once the sanctions are over, and for several years to come.
