Inter Miami’s first road test of the season comes where last season finished, the Big Apple. NYCFC’s 3-0 win in the first round of the 2022 playoffs ended the Heron’s season in emotional fashion, as it marked the end of Gonzalo Higuain’s playing career.
Now Miami heads to Yankee Stadium, a building they’ve never won in, looking to continue their perfect record to start 2023.
The Heron Outlet spoke with Roberto Abramowitz, Spanish Broadcaster for NYCFC (in English and Spanish), to discuss the upcoming matchup.
Last season, NYCFC ended Inter Miami’s season in a very convincing fashion with a 3-0 win, on their way to the Eastern Conference Finals. But this year they’ve been off to a slower start. What has been the core issue the team has dealt with to get just one point in their first two games this season?
“I think that’s pretty easy to see. Los Celestes have had to replace the heart and soul of their team, with the departures of Sean Johnson, Alex Callens, Anton Tinnerholm, Nico Acevedo, Maxi Moralez, and Héber, to say nothing of the midseason loss of Valentín Castellanos. Most teams would fall apart after losing so much talent. Yet NYCFC could do this because they have some incredible depth and slowly but surely new (and old faces) are arriving.
