The Bronx, NYC - Inter Miami drop their first game of the season with a 1-0 loss away at NYCFC.
The match didn’t go as planned for the Herons.
Without Leonardo Campana, Miami - again, lined up in a 4-2-3-1 and tried to out-posses their opponent.
Unfortunately, their tactics didn’t quite pan out the way they expected. NYCFC did an excellent job at plugging the middle of the field, forcing Miami to attack out wide:
On a pitch as small as NYCFC’s, this nullified Miami’s offense for most of the night.
However, there were a couple of moments of slick passing and build-up play that most people expected to see IMCF implement based on their first two matches.

Gregore Update
Despite the result, the biggest storyline of the night is the ankle injury to Gregore.
In the 73rd minute, the Brazilian was tackled from behind, which pinned his ankle in an awkward manner. He was subsequently substituted and then stretchered off the field:
After the game, Neville had this to say about the injury:
Drake Callender For The USMNT?
Lastly, although the result didn’t fall Inter Miami’s way, Drake Callender showed his quality.
His seven saves on the night kept the Herons competitive for large parts of the match.
After the game, Neville even went as far as to say that the 25-year-old warrants a call-up to the United States Men’s National Team.
Inter Miami’s next match is this Saturday, March 18th, as they fly to Canada to take on Toronto FC.
Was there anything specific behind McVey’s poor performance?
